Honor Band Z1 : Review

   Honor Band Z1 Review

Huawei on Wednesday at its Honor 7 launch event in New Delhi also showcased a new fitness band under the Honor brand. Named the Honor Band Z1, the fitness band is priced at Rs 5,499 exclusively on Flipkart . You can check the link given below .

Design and build

The design looked good in the images published by Press but I got a bad vibe while holding it in my hand. It has no button only a touch screen of 1.06 inch which is OLED with 170 PPI and you can navigate through gestures given on the manual .
You can swipe to change the faces .It has faces like Walking, Running, Cycling Active Time, Steps, Distance, Calories Burned.1.06-inch .I found myself making multiple swipes for a couple of commands, meaning the band was erratic and failed to take all instructions at once.
Talking about the Build quality the bezel has a  metallic finish around the circular display and is prone to scratches. It doesn't have any Gorilla Glass Protection so It has a welcome gate for scratches . The rubberised textured band also appears to be of good  quality,
Company says that it has  IP68 Dust and Water Proof Design but I doubt its functionality
The fitness band is likely to come to India in two colours - black and white. Between the two, I found the black variant better looking than the white one.

Battery

This band comes with a 70 mAh battery that has a charging time of 1.5 hours and gives up to 3 days of usage. For a full day of usage, charge it for 10 minutes. It charges through a magnetic charging dock. The battery section of this device is pretty good and satisfying .

Compatible OS

This device has Bluetooth 4.1 inbuilt and will connect through it to your smartphones but one thing which is very disappointing is that It cannot connect to smartphones below Android  KitKat (4.4.4) ,So If you have a smartphone with Jelly-Bean you better skip this watch .

Sensors

It has G-Sensor and Cap-Sensor which is stated on the device box , Actually I don't know what difference they are going to made in the drowning of ship of this band.

Software-

The main disadvantage of this watch over other smart watches is that It does not run on Android ! Yes you heard us right this watch runs on the Huawei's OS and basically its software is the biggest flaunt it has .As far as functionality is concerned, the band pairs with your phone and tracks the number of steps, calculates the amount of calories burnt, and monitors the sleep quality. The compact band, which doesn't feel heavy on the wrist, also sends you SMS notifications and alerts you for calls. So in the department it cannot compete with other android powered watches because this Huawei's OS lacks functionality .

Verdict -

This Honor Band Z1 of Huawei is not a band nor a watch its a watch+band thing and it can accurately show you the time but don't expect great things from this device .
I would suggest you to drop this watch for now and maybe you can wait for the Z2 to come or you can buy other smart-watches in this segment which are powered by android.
